Prayer in My Camera Bag

For the sun that comes up at the break of each day
For the moon that appears among the shining night stars
For soft white clouds diffusing the incandescent miracle
For colors popping and faces glowing, resplendent glory
For dappled light on the forest floor and the tree house rising up
For wind moving through the weeds and grass
For solid earth that holds them down
For pink magnolia trees and the mossy fallen log
For shiny things, the white Christmas lights
For green and gold and the color blue
For rhythms and lines and repetitions and colors that calm and soothe or agitate and excite
For peeling paint and the shiny red car
For the new things revealed and the old things preserved
For fresh strawberries and blessed coffee cake
For the rain falling sideways and mint tea in my cup
For the friends you can never forget and children that must not grow old
For gold, frankincense, and myrrh and the baby wrapped in light    -J Smilde

It's hard to believe last March 19 I was out taking this photo!  This year we are still looking at a big glacier in our front yard at the side of the road.

Irish Jig

Edward came home last week for his Spring Break and spent a lot of time catching up on his work.  He ran the Irish Jig 5K for old times and this was taken after the race when he came back home.

His first time running the Irish Jig was in 2004 where he ran in in 27 something minutes.  Today, it was a slippery start with snow on the ground, but he still ran it in 19!

Photo of an Artist

Last week, I met my friend Lydia for coffee and we had such a great visit.  I went to her apartment afterward where I took her photo in the room she is currently using as a studio and I thought it was such a great picture of her life as it is now.  I also took photos of her cat Millie who I have always wanted to photograph! What a character!

So we found out Edward was on his way home for part of his spring break and we called Maria at Calvin to see if she could go to lunch with us.  It was a lunch I never dreamed of when I woke up that day.

Chop Suey

Maria's Edward Hopper, Chop Suey
Maria in the Calvin College painting studio

After we had lunch together, I went to see the painting Maria has been working on down in the studio.  They were working on "Master's" painings and here she chose to replicate one by Edward Hopper called Chop Suey.  I also saw her friend Samantha (aka Jordan) who was working on an impressionistic painting.

Heavy Snow

Torn between my desire to go to work...
and my desire to stay home and take pix of this dazzling morning snow.

I took a few in the dark-ish morning light and off to work I went!  Oh well, there will be more snow...
