Seeking God's Face

January 2014 test-0112-Edit-4
Our church started doing the prayer book, Seeking God's Face  together this year and I think it's a very good one that follows the liturgical year. Each day has  an opening verse as an invitation, Psalm, New Testament, reflection/lectio devina, free and guided prayer, and closing verse as a blessing.

Homemade Macaroni & Cheese

Bridget & her friends from Calvin came to our church Sunday morning and then to our house afterward for a pasta bar because hey, sometimes you just need a little homemade mac & cheese!  What fun they (we) had!

Welcome to the Polar Vortex!

Bridget picked up her friend Ellie from the GRR airport last Monday night.  She flew in from California and her plane arrived after midnight and Bridget and John welcomed her to the sub-zero temps.  They left for Calvin the next afternoon after we enjoyed hot coffee and hot chili together.  I sent them off in Bridget's packed red Volvo 240 with a big bowl for later.

Resolution Run

2013 Christmas-0665-Edit-11
When Ed was home last week, he ran in the Resolution Run 4 mile run on 12/31/13.  His time was good for a 5th place medal in his age group.

2013 Christmas-0668-3
He ran with some old friends of his from Calvin.

Now that looks like resolution!

Teddy & Eddie!

If ever I wished I had my camera, this was it.  I settled for a phone pic. This past Saturday, we went to the wedding of Edward's childhood friend Teddy and it was so fun to see.

It brought back memories of this which was part of the slideshow after the wedding...

Beannacht / Blessing

12-13 advent-0239-24

On the day when
the weight deadens
on your shoulders
and you stumble,
may the clay dance
to balance you.
And when your eyes
freeze behind
the grey window
and the ghost of loss
gets in to you,
may a flock of colours,
indigo, red, green,
and azure blue
come to awaken in you
a meadow of delight.

When the canvas frays
in the currach of thought
and a stain of ocean
blackens beneath you,
may there come across the waters
a path of yellow moonlight
to bring you safely home.

May the nourishment of the earth be yours,
may the clarity of light be yours,
may the fluency of the ocean be yours,
may the protection of the ancestors be yours.
And so may a slow
wind work these words
of love around you,
an invisible cloak
to mind your life.”
